Tom Brady 'Retires' But When Will Bets Be Graded?

The Tampa Bay Bucs were among the most disappointing teams in 2022 but somehow managed to limp into the playoffs courtesy of a very bad NFC South division.

The odds of Tom Brady retiring (again) after this season were much stronger as a result and it became somewhat official Wednesday February 1 as Brady took to his social media account to make the announcement.

Of course we've been down this route before.  Last year, Brady retired only to return to the Bucs ahead of the 2022 regular season.

As far as the grading goes, it's likely these bets will not be graded until after Week 1 of the 2023 regular NFL season.

"Good morning guys, I’ll get to the point right away. I’m retiring for good,” Brady said.

“I know the process was a pretty big deal last time so when I woke up this morning I figured I just press record and let you guys know first. I won’t be long-winded, you only get one super-emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year.”

"Tom Brady will be remembered as one of the greatest to ever play in the NFL," commissioner Roger Goodell said after Brady retired in 2022. "An incredible competitor and leader, his stellar career is remarkable for its longevity but also for the sustained excellence he displayed year after year. Tom made everyone around him better and always seemed to rise to the occasion in the biggest moments. ... It has been a privilege to watch him compete and have him in the NFL."

Brady Retirement Odds Coming Into 2023

SportsBetting had him at -130 odds to retire just prior to this game.

Afterwards, on Tuesday morning, those odds were now

Will Tom Brady retire?

Yes +110

No -150

Will Tom Brady retire and then un-retire? (Must announce retirement prior to Week 1 of 2023 regular season and then come out of retirement and be on roster Week 1 of 2023 season)

Yes +700

No -2000

"Not the way we wanted to end it, but we didn't deserve it," said Brady after the Monday night loss that abruptly concluded the Bucs forgetable season.

"I think there's a part of football where I feel like it's -- sometimes you get lucky, but most of the time, the team that earns it wins, and they played [well] all year."

Brady's contract is set to expire.  He will become an unrestricted free agent at age 45 unless the Bucs are able to re-sign him. Brady will be free to sign with any team should he choose to keep playing.  SportsBetting.ag is offering those odds as well and currently have Brady as the favorite to start for the Las Vegas Raiders next season.

Brady's hardly the only top quarterback that could be departing after this season.

Looking ahead to next season, many are expecting a few league vets to hang up the cleats, and there could be a some current starters leading different teams in 2023.

SportsBetting.ag has set odds on the speculation with props on who will retire first between Brady, Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford, as well as which QBs will be on new teams.

Additionally, there is a fun Brady-Belichick prop on the board as well.
