2023 Heisman Betting Odds Updated

While most oddsmakers have Caleb Williams the favorite to repeat as Heisman, BetOnline sees Drake Maye as the man to beat.  Both are priced at around 5-1 odds but the sophomore from North Carolina has slightly better chances.

The BetOnline oddsmakers are banking on the recent crapshoot in regards to the eventual Heisman, as well as the fact that no player has won the bronze statue in back-to-back seasons since Archie Manning in the mid-70s.

“Our initial thought was to make Caleb Williams the favorite to repeat as the Heisman Trophy winner. We then thought better of it and made him the second favorite. No Heisman Trophy winner has repeated since Archie Griffin winning back-to-back in 1974 and 1975. In the last 15 years, Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, Jameis Winston, and Lamar Jackson won as early underclassmen and returned the next year as the clear Heisman favorite. And you know what, none of them won. And we don’t think Caleb Williams will buck that trend. Drake Maye was tremendous last year, finished strong and is our opening favorite.” - Adam Burns, BetOnline.ag SportsBook Manager

Maye definitely struggled down the stretch following a strong start to the 2022 regular season.  In the ACC Championship game, Maye failed to throw for any touchdowns while also turning the ball over three times. He also threw four interceptions and one touchdown in the final three games of the season.
