These are the latest stories involving the sports betting industry in Arizona

Regulated Arizona Sports Betting Sites

There are currently 17 sports betting companies regulated in the state of Arizona.  They are: DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, BetRivers, BetFred, WynnBET, Barstool, Unibet, TwinSpires, Hard Rock, Golden Nugget, SuperBook, Betway, Bally Bet, Desert Diamond, SaharaBets.

The number of operators makes Arizona among the most competitive states when it comes to regulated sports wagering.  The problem is the population doesn't support this number, especially when the top 4 make up around 80% of the overall market.

Case in point, $611 Million in online sports bets was handled in November 2022. DraftKings and FanDuel combined to account for 64% of Arizona’s entire sports gambling sector.  The remaining of the Big Four, BetMGM and Caesars, took in $94 million and $62 million in handle, respectively.

Restrictions and Tax

Remote registration (via the app or online) is available throughout AZ.  The Arizona sports betting tax ranges from 2.59 - 4.50%.  The federal tax rate is 24% and, yes, you'll need to provide your social security number.

While the tax rates may be a turnoff, Arizona is not nearly as bad as a lot of other states.  In Tennessee, for example, 10 percent of winnings is withheld on every bet, and that's not even part of the tax rate.

The only real restrictions are in regard to age (21 and up), no online casino betting, no eSports betting, and no college prop bets.

Arizona does not permit live wagering on the NFL Draft out of fear of leaking info.
