Steelers Make Out Like Bandits Draft

(April 29, 2023) - Following a day in which the Baltimore Ravens appeared to bolster their roster with the selection of Zay Flowers, another AFC North team made out big in the second round of the NFL Draft.

Pittsburgh selected Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State (No. 32); Keeanu Benton, DT, Wisconsin (No. 49); Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia (No. 93).

The Twitter community was celebrating the Steelers choices on Saturday and the experts seem to agree.

Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN writes: "Porter is long and physical, and though he only had one career interception, I think his ball skills will improve at the next level."

And the Steelers defense will be solid.

Porter is long and physical, and though he only had one career interception, I think his ball skills will improve at the next level.

"The Steelers also added the big defensive tackle Benton, and though I'm lower on him than Todd McShay, I see why they did it. He's my No. 6 defensive tackle; I thought he'd go in Round 3. This isn't that big of a reach, but he needs to be more than just a run-stuffer to up his game. On tape, I see him flash pass-rush talent, but he wasn't consistent enough."

The Steelers selected Wisconsin Badgers Nick Herbig in the fourth round.

Herbig was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2022, as well as a CBS Sports second-team All-American and Walter Camp second-team All-America selection. In addition, Herbig was an Associated Press third-team All-American.

"I am excited to get to work with him," said outside linebackers coach Denzel Martin. "Looking forward to it. Right now, he will be at outside linebacker. That is where we have him. He is athletic enough (to move around) but we're going to start him at outside backer and try to make a big-time player out of him."

For gamblers, Pittsburgh provides some of the best futures value on the market.
