2023 Derby Mayhem
A total of five horses had been scratched by Saturday morning, including the favorite Forte. This left the 2023 Kentucky Derby field with just 18 horses.
Forte was scratched following a routine examination by the state veterinarian.
Jody Demling, Radio Play-by-Play announcer for University of Louisville Radio Network, tweeted:
"Would be the biggest understatement of all time to say Mike Repole and Todd Pletcher are not happy about the state vets decision to scratch Forte. Repole was pissed and walked away from meeting and said 'that guy (pointing to state vet) he won’t talk to you.'"
Pletcher is Forte's trainer. Repole is the owner.
