BetUS has released its early 2023 Preakness Stakes odds with payouts starting at $25 for every $10 bet on Mage and $30 for every $10 bet on Forte.

Mage was the winner of this year's Kentucky Derby. He closed at 15-1 odds.  The win also ended Javier Castellano's Derby drought.

“I feel like I’m on top of the world,” said Castellano, a 45-year-old Venezuelan rider who had Preakness wins with Bernardini in 2006 and Cloud Computing in 2017. He entered the Hall of Fame that same year.

“If one thing has been consistent in my career, I never give up. ... I always tried to be positive and tried to find the right horse to participate in one of the biggest races in the world.”

Forte was the Kentucky Derby favorite heading into Saturday before being scratched that morning with a foot bruise.

A spokesperson for the Maryland Racing Commission confirmed that Forte will not be eligible for the Preakness Stakes.

There is a mandatory 14-day non-competition requirement with the colt required to work in the presence of a state regulatory veterinarian as well as returning a negative blood sample result before returning to racing.  BetUS was still listing him at 3-1 odds.  Removing him from the field would likely shorten Mage's odds.  As such, we would suggest locking Mage's current price in now.
