The End of an Era as 5Dimes Shutters European Business Tuesday Night

Ladies and gentlemen, 5Dimes has left the building.

Effective 11:59 pm ET, the long established online sports betting company was shutting down to one of its last remaining markets, Europe.  It was not immediately clear if the company would continue to operate in Latin American jurisdictions and maybe a few others.

5Dimes continues to claim it is preparing to open up in Canada.  But Gambling911.com has already reported that the software is currently complaint and has been for a number of months.  The holdup?  5Dimes has been unable - or unwilling - to engage in any type of rigorous regulatory testing to demonstrate their financials and suitability.

It has been widely rumored that another company may be in talks to acquire some of 5Dimes assets.  Should that happen, the remnants of 5Dimes likely will not resemble what was at one time the largest offshore sportsbook.

The company was founded by West Virginia native Sean Creighton, the son of a supermarket mogul.  In the fall of 2019, Creighton would be kidnapped, his body discovered months later.  Wife Laura has continued to keep the company alive but is said to be looking to relocate her family to the United States and leave the industry entirely.  Good for her.

5Dimes had indicated it voluntarily would be giving up its Isle of Man license.  As of Tuesday evening, the 5Dimes license still appeared on the Isle of Man Gaming Commission site.
