Marketa Vondrousova Win Big for Books (July 15, 2023)
Marketa Vondrousova has become the first unseeded woman to win the Wimbledon tournament and, in doing so, ensured nearly every future bet on the outright winner has been declared a loser.
That's great news for the books, especially considering the favorite to win on the men's side, Novak Djokovic, is still very much alive heading into the men's final. Live betting for the men's title matchup can be found here.
"After everything I've been through, it's amazing I can stand here and hold this," Vondrousova said while holding the championship trophy on court after the match. "Tennis is crazy."
She upset No. 6 Ons Jabeur on Saturday. Vondrousova was not listed among the futures odds at most books.
Vondrousova was once a top-15 player and 2019 French Open finalis but has dealt with a series of injuries and multiple surgeries in the three years that followed her Roland Garros run.
Sunday's men's matchup features No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz vs. No. 2 Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz did have the second shortest odds heading into this year's Wimbledon. He'll pay out $350 on a $100 bet with a win for those who got down on him early.

Wimbledon officials are cracking down on couples who plan to use the London venue’s quiet room as a not-so-secret rendezvous spot.
In other words, they are banning sexual behaviour at Wimbledon.
The secluded “sanctuary” space near Court 12 was a hot spot last year for sex. Officials will be keeping a watchful eye out at this year's tournament, which is outfitted with two armchairs, a foldaway table and phone-charging facilities.
“It’s a really important space. So, we will be retaining it and we’ll be making sure that people are using it the right way,” Sally Bolton, chief executive of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, told The Telegraph.
“If people need space to go to pray, it’s the quiet space for that. There is an opportunity to breastfeed in there. But, we are looking for it to be used in the right way.”
