Barstool Sports to Shut Down Sportsbook: New Platform Coming

With the MLB All Star Break week here and football just around the corner, Barstool Sports sportsbook will be taking some time off as they get set to launch a brand new platform.

The site, which is owned by Penn National and operates in a number of US states, anticipates being down for 72 hours.  As such, customers will be unable to place bets on the massively popular Home Run Derby or MLB All Star Game.

Barstool Sportsbook began notifying customers this week that they would be migrating away from the sports wagering platform Kambi.

“Over the last year, our team has been working hard to build a new and improved Barstool Sportsbook & Casino,” the release read. “Next week we will be launching the new Barstool Sportsbook & Casino, which is loaded with additional features to upgrade your betting experience.”

Gamblers are hopeful the product will improve with the new move, especially when it comes to the odds previously offered.

The Barstool Sportsbook benefits from strong name recognition and a popular social media presence though there are doubts its founder Dave Portnoy will stay on in the future as the parent company continues to come under the microscope for Barstool Sports personalities antics.  The company was forced to fire the beloved Ben Mintz for making a racial slur.  They also had to abandon their "Can't Lose Parlays".

The shutdown begins the evening of Sunday July 9 and continues through the All Star Break.
