A special grand jury in Georgia recommended charges against many people beyond the 19 indicted in an election investigation, including Sen. Lindsey Graham.  In the end, he was not indicted.

The South Carolina Senator at one time was among the most vocal critics of legalized online gambling in the US, including sports betting.

A report released on Friday revealed that the grand jury investigating efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results recommended indictments against Lindsey as well as two former U.S. senators.  There were a total of 39 names submitted as part of a nine-page report.

Former U.S. Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue of Georgia and former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn were among those recommended by the special grand jury but ultimately were not indicted.

The panel spent seven months hearing from some 75 witnesses before completing a report in December with recommendations for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on charges related to attempts to overturn the election

The release of the identities of people recommended for indictment is a departure from ordinary grand jury protocol.

For the better part of a decade, Graham worked along side the late gambling billionaire Sheldon Adelson to prevent the federal legalization of online gambling in the US.  In May 2018, the Supreme Court overturned The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, thus ushering in a new era of legalized sports gambling at the state level in the US.

In an ironic twist, Adelson's casino group, the Las Vegas Sands, has announced plans for its foray into the online gambling market.
