Rebels and Bulldogs 2023 Futures Odds
The expectations were low for both the state's marquee football programs in 2023 as Ole Miss and Mississippi State were favored to win fewer than 7 regular season games.
Ole Miss was hoping to finish the 2023 season with just two losses. One of those losses was to the reigning champions UGA.
Jerry Palm (CBS Sports), Steve Lassan (Athlon Sports) were predicting a Peach Bowl appearance against Penn State for Ole Miss.
Brad Crawford (247Sports) believes they have a shot at the Cotton Bowl.
vs. LSU
LSU was a -2.5 road favorite in this one against an Ole Miss team that is creeping towards its expected 7 win season with three already under their belt, and maybe four after this day?
Cash action was 65% on LSU, tickets 70% and consensus plays were at 70%, making the Rebels all the more enticing here.
Gary Segars notes: "Ole Miss looked bland last week against Alabama. But they're not playing Alabama's defense this weekend. LSU number 122 in defense PPA drive this season, number 107 PPA per pass allowed, and they are number 104 PPA per rush allowed. So it seems Ole Miss can attack them in a myriad of different ways and be able to find some success."

Week 2 Arizona @ Mississippi State
On paper at least, this looks like another easy win for Mississippi State as they were coming in as the -9.5 home favorite against Arizona.
The line on this game has moved between -9.5 and -10.5 over the course of this past week.
"The competition level takes a big jump, and it starts this weekend," Bulldogs coach Zach Arnett said. "On offense, we've got to finish better. Defensively, we got to run harder and make tackles."
The game is a rematch of last season's Week 2 matchup in Tucson, Ariz., when the Bulldogs won 39-17.
Mississippi State's Sagarin Rating was coming in at No. 39 (76.77). Home field advantage this week was formulated at 2.90.
Week 2 Ole Miss @ Tulane
Here we get a line moving between Rebels -7 and -7.5 with a slight 1-point overlay detected. We get a number of 6.34. Our model has the lines On The Money hitting at around a 73% mark for the dog dating back to last season when in the 7 to 7.5 range without dipping below that number. As you can see, our number falls just outside of this space. Otherwise we'd be paying close attention to Tulane here.
Some books have the Rebels seeing greater than 80% of the cash coming in on the spread. Note that the number opened as low as -3 two weeks ago.
Ole Miss had a respectable Sagarin Rating within the Top 15 at No. 13 (84.38).
Week 1 Recap
Ole Miss was ranked No. 22 in the nation. They enjoyed an easy victory (and a cover) over Mercer in Week 1, 73-7. The line was -31.5.
Mississippi State enjoyed a nice win over SE Louisiana, 48-7.
