Nebraska's Ahron Ulis Facing Potential One-Year Suspension After NCAA Updates Gambling Policy

LINCOLN, NE (Gambling911.com) - The NCAA this week released new sports betting guidelines and not everyone is going to be happy.

Nebraska basketball guard Ahron Ulis, who pleaded guilty in September to underage gambling at his former school Iowa, may be facing a one-year suspension from the NCAA.

Now a junior, Ulis placed “approximately 1850” bets using FanDuel totaling $34,800. There were also 340 wagers on NCAA events, including one on an Iowa football game.

Ulis has two years of eligibility left. He could remain as a practice squad member for this year and play his fifth and final year at NU.

The NCAA issued the following statement pertaining to the new policy: "Effective immediately, reinstatement guidelines for student-athletes who wager on teams at their school — excluding their own team — will start at requiring one season of ineligibility and a loss of one year of eligibility."

One of the most impacted players is a current Iowa player, Noah Shannon.  The Hawkeyes football player was suspended in August after getting caught wagering on Iowa women’s basketball last season.  With Shannon being a sixth-year senior, his career as a Hawkeye is over.

Huskers Hope for Game Against Terrapins Saturday

LINCOLN, NE (Gambling911.com) - We have Nebraska the slight favorite here with our number (0.28) despite the oddsmakers making Maryland a -2 point favorite and moving to 2.5.  The wrong team favorite within this range staying under the 3 bodes well for Nebraska (74% have some through in our sampling) as does the overlay of 2 to 2.5 points (72% have come through in our sampling).

Both teams come into this game 5-4 Straight Up while Maryland owns a 3-6 record Against The Spread.  Nebraska is 4-5 ATS.

These teams last played one another in 2019 and prior to that 2016.  Nebraska destroyed Maryland in both those games.

The winner will achieve bowl eligibility. Maryland is trying to go to a bowl for a third straight year. Nebraska hasn’t played in a bowl since 2016.

Nebraska QB Heinrich Haarberg got a vote of confidence from coach Matt Rhule after losing two fumbles and throwing an interception in a loss to Michigan State last week.
