Baltimore Ravens Now -2.5 Against the Chargers? Seeing 80 Percent of the Action
The red hot 8-3 Baltimore Ravens take on the lackluster but capable 4-6 Los Angeles Chargers in a Sunday night game that should draw a large number of gamblers.
Things That Make You Go Hmmmm
The line action is intriguing here as oddsmakers brought this one down to Ravens -3 from as high as -4. Action was 80% with the number now seen at -2.5. This to us looks like a classic opinion on the surface whereby books want lopsided action on Baltimore believeing LA covers.
We actually only have Baltimore -1.65. The -2.5 is not common but we've seen it this morning. Overlays in the 3/3.5/4 range without going under the 3 (again, the 2.5 is not common at this time) have gone very heavily towards the dog.
The public most certainly knows that Baltimore last faced the Chargers in 2021 and beat them 34-6. That was in Baltimore and occurred two years ago.
What the Experts Are Saying
From Winners and Whiners:
"They have played well offensively, scoring more than 25 points per game. They throw the ball very well and also have a good running game. But, the Ravens have a very good run defense and the third-best pass defense in the league. They lead the league in sacks and they also force a lot of turnovers, so expect them to be all over Herbert and force him to cough up the ball."
Matt Levine of SI.com:
"This is a game that the Bolts desperately have to win if they want to turn their season around. Taking the Chargers on the money line seems like a good bet as the underdog. LA knows that a loss would decimate their playoff chances, so you'd expect them to come out strong. But the Ravens will give them a challenge the entire game."
Ravens vs. Chargers Prop Bets
Chargers QB Justin Herbert's passing yards total comes in higher than Ravens Lamar Jackson's (245.5 vs. 234.5).
Herbert completed 21-of-36 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns in the Chargers’ 23-20, Week 11 loss to the Packers, adding eight carries for 73 yards.
Herbert raised eyebrows following that loss after he was seen slamming the ball and scolding center Will Clapp with the game on the line and a delay of game called.
"This is as close as we've ever been as a team," Herbert said, ensuring all was well.
"We're excited and looking forward to the challenge of playing the Ravens this week. We know how good of a football team they are so we have to be at our best," Herbert continued. "We'll learn from our mistakes and learn from the good things.
He added: "I feel like we've got a special group of guys to keep fighting through it."
Jackson completed 16-of-26 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns in the Ravens’ 34-20, Week 11 win over the Bengals, adding nine carries for 54 yards.
