Carson Wentz did his job filling in for Matthew Stafford, and now Stafford gets the chance for a highly anticipated playoff matchup against his former team and Jared Goff will face his old team, the LA Rams. LA would go on to win the Super Bowl after Stafford was dealt there and Detroit has gone on to become a winning team under Goff's leadership.

The Rams looked nothing like a team destined for the post season prior to Thanksgiving.  LA went 3-6 leading up to that time.  Since November 19, the Rams have gone 7-1, fast becoming one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

“Exciting for this team just to get back to where we are right now, to be honest with you,” Stafford said of the Rams. “The opportunity happens to be in Detroit, which is fun for me on a personal level.”

Detroit closed their season with a 30-20 win over Minnesota.  Rookie tight end Sam LaPorta suffered a potentially serious knee injury in that game.

LaPorta had 86 catches, an NFL record by a rookie tight end that surpassed Keith Jackson’s 81 receptions in 1988 with the Philadelphia Eagles. The second-round pick from Iowa had 889 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns.

Detroit (12-5) matched the 1991 team’s win total and will host a playoff game for the first time since the 1993 season.
