Former LSU Football Star Kayshon Boutte Arrested for Sports Betting
Wide receiver for the New England Patriots, Kayshon Boutte, has been arrested for illegal sports betting.
Boutte had played with the LSU Tigers where he was one of that team's top receivers in 2020. He would go on to become the number-one receiver after Terrace Marshall Jr.
Boutte was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He had two catches for 19 yards while playing in three games as a rookie.
He is accused of using an alias to illegally bet on sports while he was underage, Louisiana State Police said in a news release.
The news release says Boutte placed over 8,900 wagers, at least 17 of which were on NCAA football games and least 6 of which were on LSU football.
"In July 2023, LSU was made aware of allegations regarding a former student-athlete’s improper conduct related to sports gambling while enrolled at the University," LSU said in a statement. "Since then, we have fully cooperated with all relevant authorities involved in the investigation and will continue to do so. We have no evidence that any other student-athletes participated in these prohibited activities, and we are grateful for measures that detect and discourage sports gambling related misconduct."
The news comes just as reports began surfacing this week that a probe into underage gambling among close to two dozen Iowa University and Iowa State players is now under intense scrutiny.
