UConn Huskies Odds to Make March Madness

The Huskies odds of winning the 2024 NCAA Men's College Basketball Championship were coming in at 5-1 and they were the favorites.

Ahead of their game against Villanova, UConn was stunned by Creighton 85-67. UConn (24-3, 14-2) had its 14-game win streak end as a result.

UConn's Tristen Newton scored 17 of his 27 points in the second half, including 10 during the 18-5 spurt that helped pull the Huskies within 74-64.

The Huskies made a season-low three 3s on 16 attempts.

Connecticut can't do it without Cam Spencer.  And when he's been off, so too has the team.  In the Huskies three losses, Spencer played a total of 99 minutes, went 7-for-27 field goals, 2-for-14 from 3-point range, 1-for-3 free throws, scored a total of 17 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.  In just one of those teams, for example, Spencer scored just 6 points against Creighton.

In those three losses, his total score of 17 points was just slightly above his average score total per game of 14.5.

Donovan Clingan totaled 12 points (6-9 FG), seven rebounds, one block and two steals across 26 minutes during that loss to Creighton.  His points scored were a half point over his total Over/Under of 11.5 while his seven rebounds were a half point fewer.

Up next, Connecticut will host Seton Hall as a likely -13.5 favorite.

UConn Huskies Power Ranking

The UConn Huskies were ranked No. 3 on ESPN.

""Since Donovan Clingan returned from a foot injury that cost him five games in December and January, UConn is No. 2 nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency at BartTorvik.com. That includes limiting six of seven opponents to fewer than one point per possession -- highlighted by the Huskies holding Creighton to 48 points back on Jan. 17 and Xavier to 22 first-half points on Jan. 28. With Clingan anchoring the paint defense, Xavier shot 3-for-23 on 2-pointers with him on the floor in that game. This past week, it happened again, with Georgetown going 7-for-22 on layups on Saturday."

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
