Duke comes into this one as the No. 4 seed and a -6 favorite across the board whether its a stateside, offshore or PPH sportsbook.  NC State is technically a Cinderella team and the lowest seed still in (No. 11).

NC State got here by beating Marquette.  DJ Horne scored 19 points, Casey Morsell added 15 points and Mohamed Diarra had 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Horne has been averaging 2.7 made 3-pointers per game for the Wolfpack, scoring 16.8 points while shooting 41.1% from beyond the arc.

“It’s magical, but I’m going to say we knew this from day one,” said Horne, whose team lost seven of nine to finish the regular season. “We knew we were a good team. It was all a matter of just locking in and understanding our roles, and no better time to be doing that than now.”

For the Blue Devils, Jared McCain is shooting 41.2% from beyond the arc with 2.3 made 3-pointers per game, while averaging 13.8 points. Kyle Filipowski is averaging 15.5 points, eight rebounds and 3.2 assists over the last 10 games.

Duke knocked out the second No. 1 seed, Houston, with Filipowski scoring for the 54-51 victory.

“Any questions about their mental toughness or their heart, I think they answered those tonight,” second-year coach Jon Scheyer said.

“This game right here was that same type of game. Just a great, gritty team and their culture. Just seeing the togetherness, how we didn’t quit out there tonight, that really shows the growth from last year,” Filipowski said. “We remember how upset we were from last year, and we didn’t want to repeat that again.”

This will be a rematch of the March 14 game which saw NC State beat Duke 74-69.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
