Elvis Jacket Casino Thief Nabbed
Christopher Owen, 50, of Pompano Beach, Fla. may soon be getting a little jailhouse rock, literally.
Owen is alleged to have stolen a jacket once owned by Elvis Presley from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The property is a themed establishment that features numerous authentic Rock & Roll memorabilia.
The incident occurred last year, on Valentine's Day no less. The jacket is valued at $11,670, however, it should be noted that a tailor-made leather and mink coat worn by Elvis Presley was auctioned off for $160,000 in the United Kingdom last year.
According to a warrant, Owen was captured on surveillance video going into a section that was blocked off with rope barricades and contained a mannequin that was wearing the Elvis jacket.
After taking the jacket, Owen handed it to a woman and they both left the casino on foot, the report said.
Owen was identified as he had used his driver's license to request a cash advance at the casino.
He had also been arrested in 2022 in Hollywood and the officer who had arrested him recognized the perpetrator in the casino surveillance footage, the report said.
Owen was booked into jail on Saturday, just over a year later, records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
He is facing a grand theft charge. Owen is facing prison time that can range anywhere from 5 to 30 years and fines from $5,000 to $10,000.
