Jayden Daniels’ Mom in Hot Water Over Alleged Recruiting Violations as Draft Day Approaches

Jayden Daniels, the highly sought out LSU quarterback and likely No. 2 pick in this year's NFL Draft, must contend with a personal distraction courtesy of his own mom.

Regina Jackson is accused of recruiting violations during the Covid no-visit period.  Jackson is not facing any punitive action herself.

Arizona State, where Daniels played prior to landing at LSU, agreed to disassociate with Daniels’ mom, Regina Jackson, for five years after she allegedly paid for flights and lodging for recruits who visited Arizona State during the dead period, according to 247Sports.

Former ASU head coach Herm Edwards agreed to a five-year show-cause penalty in a negotiated resolution with NCAA’s Committee on Infractions for his role in recruiting violations, according to the report.

Talk about "imperfect timing".

Daniels is the -450 favorite to be selected second in this year's NFL Draft.

CBS Sports writes of Daniels:

"The reigning Heisman Trophy winner is a tantalizing prospect who has a dynamic playmaking ability with both his arm and legs. New Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury should have a field day tapping into his dual-threat ability."

And NFL.com offered this:

"With five seasons of starting experience under his belt, Daniels possesses a rare blend of playmaking talent and command from the pocket. He’s tall but slender, so there will be concerns about durability, considering how often he ran in college. However, teams must also recognize that he has no issues sitting in the pocket and working through progressions as a platform thrower with good mechanics and footwork. Daniels possesses the football intelligence to get himself protected and take care of the football with quality decision-making. He’s an accurate passer over the first two levels and throws with anticipation to slice and dice zone coverages. He had noticeable issues putting deep throws on faster receivers in stride, though. He lacks ideal size and arm talent, but he’s much more capable as a runner and passer than most of the quarterbacks who have moved on to the next level lately. Daniels is positioned to become a very good NFL starter in a spread-based passing attack."
