On May 20, Scarlett Johansson issued a statement detailing grievances over OpenAI’s use of her voice in their recently released GPT 4-o system. And now one popular website is taking bets on whether OpenAI apologizes to the Hollywood actress.
OpenAI said on Monday that it would remove the voice, but insisted that it was not meant to be an "imitation" of the star.
However, Johansson accused the company, and its founder Sam Altman, of deliberately copying her voice, in a statement seen by the BBC on Monday evening.
“When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angered and in disbelief that Mr Altman would pursue a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine," she wrote.
"Mr Altman even insinuated that the similarity was intentional, tweeting a single word 'her' - a reference to the film in which I voiced a chat system, Samantha, who forms an intimate relationship with a human."

This market will resolve to "Yes" if a public apology is issued by Sam Altman or OpenAI to Scarlett Johansson by May 24, 2024, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
The primary resolution source for this market will be official statements from Sam Altman or OpenAI. However, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
Polymarket does not accept bets from the U.S. at this time.
