Key Findings

  • The Brewers recent success against the Cubs (5-2) could be due to games being played in Milwaukee.
  • The Brewers have not played great in recent games and, in fact, Chicago has performed better.
  • Keep your eye on Colin Rea starting Tuesday as he's enjoyed success versus these Cubs.

The Milwaukee Brewers have mostly owned this series between them and the Chicago Cubs in recent games.  They are 5-2 in the last seven, however, we should note that those games were all played in Milwaukee.  The Brewers are still 13-9 over the last twenty-two games of this series.

Team Rankings

Rankings courtesy of MLB.com:

Brewers (No. 6)

"This was supposed to be the year when the Brewers ran out of gas. They lost their manager and their ace after a season in which they were swept out of the first round of the playoffs. How was this team supposed to be better? But once again, the Brewers foiled the doubters and are leading the NL Central. They could still use some more starting pitching, but this division is hardly scary."

Milwaukee had won just four of their last ten coming into Sunday.

Cubs (No. 21)

"Many people – including your author – thought the Cubs were the NL Central favorites heading into the season. Instead, they’re in last place with a limping offense and injury issues everywhere. You have to wonder what’s going to happen with this roster … both in July, and in 2025."

Chicago had won six of their last ten coming into Sunday.

How to Be a Baseball Bookie

Just think about it, on average there are 162 regular MLB game per season. If a gambler bets $100 on one team per season with a 10% vig, you can earn $1,620 from them. Multiply that by the number of friends you have that follow baseball and it can become quite high.

Brewers Starting Pitching

Tobias Myers (6-3, 3.13 ERA)

Tobias Myers tossed eight scoreless innings with six strikeouts in a win over the Pirates on Wednesday.  He allowed four runs in his prior start and three before that (in six innings).

Colin Rea (9-3, 3.77 ERA)

Colin Rea worked 5 2/3 innings on Sunday against the Nationals after following opener Rob Zastryzny. He allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out seven and issuing one walk in a victory. He permitted seven earned runs in five-plus innings against the Pirates in his prior start.

Rea is scheduled to start on Tuesday with the Cubs starter undecided as of Sunday.  Rea has been sensational in 43 appearances against Cubs hitters.  They've only gotten 8 off of Rea with two of those converted into RBI's (one a homer).  Seiya Suzuki had the home run.

Cubs Starting Pitching

Justin Steele (2-4, 3.07 ERA)

Justin Steele was tagged for five runs in 4 2/3 innings by the Diamondbacks on Friday and is likely to bounce back in his scheduled Wednesday start.
