Key Takeaways

  • Astros are 7-1 in their last eight meetings versus the Athletics.
  • Astros batters are just 4-for-32 at bats vs. Oakland starting pitcher Hogan Harris.

This series certainly had promise for the Astros as they were 7-1 in their last eight meetings versus the Oakland Athletics.

The Astros were back to their old selves following a sluggish start to the season.  They are now 19-7 in their last twenty-six games overall.  They did fail to sweep the Mariners on Sunday however.

Team Rankings

Rankings courtesy of MLB.com:

Astros (No. 10)

""You never really thought the Astros were out of it, did you? They sure are in the middle of everything now, reclaiming their spot as one of the scariest teams in the American League. Remember, this is a team going for its eighth ALCS in a row. They’re not going to go away. Someone’s going to have to beat them."

Athletics (No. 27)

The Oakland fans who have supported this team for 57 years deserve better than to have their watch end like this. The A’s are set to move to Sacramento next season, and this is the way their Oakland tenure ends: not with a bang but with a whimper. The A’s are on pace to lose 100-plus games for the third season in a row, for the first time in Oakland and only the second time in franchise history (1919-1921 in Philadelphia).

Houston Astros Pitching

Spencer Arrighetti (4-7, 5.63 ERA)

Spencer Arrighetti limited the Rangers to one run in six innings with seven strikeouts, but didn’t factor in the decision his last start.  He allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings in a no-decision against the Twins before that.  Arringhetti has not had a win in his last three starts.

Oakland Athletics Pitching

Hogan Harris (1-3, 3.40 ERA)

Astros career statistics vs. Hogan Harris are just 4-for-32.

Harris lasted just two innings on Friday against the Phillies. He allowed two earned runs and issued six walks in a no-decision.

The Astros are hitting .260 against lefties this season led by Yordan Alvarez, who is hitting nearly .350 against lefties this season.

This was the one exception where we suggested sitting out with a play on the Astros as Harris' has recorded quite the record against Astros batters, limited as it may be.
