What Are The Odds to Win - Women's Triathlon - Summer Olympics

There are two co-favorites to win gold in the Women's Triathlon at this year's Summer Olympics in Paris.

Beth Potter (GBR) and Cassandre Beaugrand (FRA) would each pay $175 on a $100 bet.

Potter competed for Great Britain in athletics at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In 2019 she won the gold medal at the European Triathlon Championships in Weert, Netherlands.  In 2022, she won individual bronze at the 2022 World Triathlon Sprint Championships, and silver with Team Great Britain in the World Triathlon Mixed Relay Championships. In 2023, she won the Elite championship in the World Triathlon Championship Series, becoming the sixth British women's world champion.

“I want to prove [to myself] that I can do it – but I don’t feel an external pressure," Potter said of participating in this year's Summer Olympics.

Potter has been a little down on herself nonetheless.

She explained: “I haven’t quite been myself for the last few races. I’ve felt like I’ve been missing something and we’ve now found it so I’m confident my run is where it’s at.

“I’m just looking forward to it. If it does come down to a run then I feel confident in that and I just want to get racing. I’ve done all the training and now I just need to rest up and recover.”

As for Beaugrand, on April 23, 2022, Beaugrand set a Women's Run Record for Arena Games Triathlon racing on her way to victory at Arena Games Triathlon London 2022.

Beaugrand is a 2014 National Elite Champion, 2013 and 2014 National Youth Champion, 2013 European Team Relay Youth Champion and 2014 Vice Junior World Champion, and 2018 until 2020 World Team Relay Champion.

Stats guru Graeme Acheson of Sports4Cast attempted to determine which of these two might have the edge.

Acheson says: “The interesting thing to draw out here might be the difference between the two favourites. There’s a reasonable, although not massive difference, between their average swim times – 10 seconds between Cass’s 19:27 and Beth’s 19:37 – and more between their last 18 months at 20 seconds.

“However, there is a large difference between their fastest times, suggesting that Cass has a higher potential in this discipline. If she gets it right, she could take significant time out of Beth here.”
