Less than three weeks after emerging as the de facto Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris has opened up a double-digit lead over former President Donald Trump in Miami-Dade County, according to a new poll from a top Miami Democratic consultant.

Trump won Florida 51.2% to Joe Biden's 47.9% in the 2020 general election.  Weed and abortion will be on the ballot in Florida for 2024.  This initiative might draw in more Democrats and Independents.  Trump only beat Hillary Clinton by 1.2% in the Sunshine State in 2016.

The recent poll, released Thursday by Democratic strategist Christian Ulvert, a top campaign adviser to several Miami-Dade candidates including Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, shows Harris notching the support of nearly 54% of Miami-Dade likely voters.

The poll of 1,071 of likely general election voters in Miami-Dade County was conducted over the first five days of August by Plantation-based MDW Communications.

On Thursday, for the first time since Harris entered the raise as the presumptive Democratic nominee, the current vice president led Trump in the odds at BetOnline.

Another poll released Thursday shows Harris up 5 points nationally.

That poll found Harris had widened her lead since a July 22-23 Reuters/Ipsos survey, which found her up 37% to 34% over Trump.

The nationwide poll of 2,045 U.S. adults, conducted Aug. 2-7, found 4% of those surveyed backed independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr., down from 10% in July.

Ipsos conducted the August poll independently from Reuters. The poll, conducted online, had a margin of error of around 3 percentage points.
