We told you to consider betting the San Diego Padres for this series in Miami this weekend.  Our only regret is not jumping on them Friday.  Saturday turned out to be a nail biter as San Diego ultimately won in OT.  We got down on the Padres at -170 early enough.

Luis Arraez had two hits and drove in three runs, including a go-ahead RBI groundout in the 10th inning, and the surging San Diego Padres beat the Miami Marlins 9-8 on Saturday.

David Peralta singled twice and doubled for the Padres, who have won seven straight and 16 of their last 18 games. San Diego clinched its eighth consecutive series and has won 17 of 21 on the road.

“It’s a privilege to manage a game like that with the club we have,” Padres manager Mike Shildt said. “The desire, the ability to compete, and the dedication to playing the game right — that’s what it’s all about.”

For Sunday the line was coming in a little too high for our tastes (-200).

Dylan Cease will start for San Diego.  He's allowed the Marlins to hit just twice in 18 at bats.

Cease threw just one inning in Tuesday’s start against the Pirates before a lengthy rain delay bumped him from the game, so you are talking about a pitcher that is well rested.

Looking ahead to Monday through Wednesday, the Padres will host a Pirates team that is already out West taking on the Dodgers.  The Padres will be flying back home Monday so that's a game to avoid.  Otherwise, San Diego has won four of the last five games in the series.

The Pirates career statistics vs. Michael King on Tuesday are just 6-for-34 at bats (.176). King pitched decently in a no-decision against the Pirates on Wednesday evening, surrendering four runs (three earned) on six hits over his five innings of work.

Luis Arraez is 4-for-7 against Pirates anticipated starter Luis Ortiz.

Pittsburgh had lost seven of eight games coming into Saturday's face off against the Dodgers.
