  • Vegan Daniel Negreanu questions why Americans always have tummy aches and Europeans do not.
  • Negs followers were quick to fight back.
  • It's yet another attack on a beloved American brand Mountain Dew, which originated as a mixer for whiskey.

One of the most outspoken poker players, Canadian Daniel Negreanu, wants to educate Americans about the food they eat.  Apparently it's mostly all bad.

Negreanu tweeted:

"For those in the US, do you support the cause to eliminate poisons being added to your food that aren’t legal in many parts of the world?  Have you ever noticed that the same foods that give you a tummy ache in the US, don’t in Europe? Breads and meats especially?"

That tweet was accompanied by a photo featuring McDonald's french fries and Mountain Dew.

Negreanu, we should note, is a vegan.

Not surprisingly, Negreanu's followers weren't all too happy about Negs bashing their favorite food and drink brands.

"Do you support creating a new multibillion dollar bureaucracy that inefficiently yet heavyhandedly wields unchecked power to regulate the ingredients of all saleable food products in the country, essentially reducing the freedom of businesses to affordably operate as they see fit, based on inconclusive toxicity study results deemed “good enough proof” only by authoritarian European nations instead of actually trusting the American market to eventually work it out?"

"Yes I do support that! What's your point? Do you like seeing fat fucks everywhere? We've got a health and obesity epidemic not to mention all the chronic diseases young people are getting. You should want cleaner food products. Probably should educate yourself in how harmful this stuff is."

And poor Mountain Dew.

"The soft drink has long been associated with the joy and despair of white America," writes Ian Bogost of The Atlantic.

“Democrats say that it is racist to believe … well, they say it’s racist to do anything,” J. D. Vance proclaimed during a campaign rally this week, after bringing up the need for voter-ID requirements. “I had a Diet Mountain Dew yesterday and one today, and I’m sure they’re going to call that racist too,” he said, adding, “But—it’s good.” His audience laughed, and Vance laughed before punctuating the moment: “I love you guys.”

USA Today explains the origin of Mountain Dew:

"Mountain Dew" is old-timey Appalachian slang for moonshine. Its Tennessee creators Barney and Ally Hartman originally crafted Mountain Dew as a mixer for whiskey in the 1940s. Its slogan was: “Yahoo, Mountain Dew. It’ll Tickle Yore Innards!”
