MLB Players Union Sues Gambling Sites Including DraftKings, Bet365 Over Use of Players' Images for Bets

On Monday, the MLB Players Association filed separate lawsuits in New York and Pennsylvania.  The suits allege that sports betting and fantasy baseball companies DraftKings, FanDuel, Underdog, and bet365 wrongfully used the names and likenesses of MLB players. Player names and likenesses were allegedly used for prop bets despite having no license to do so.

The lawsuits, obtained by CBS Sports, were filed by MLB Players Inc., which handles the union's business matters. According to the filing, the sites began featuring images of players on their betting platforms in early 2024, despite not being licensed by MLBPI.

"Indeed, nearly every active MLB player's image is displayed on defendants' websites and mobile apps," the lawsuit reads. "MLB player names, images, and likenesses are also featured prominently in advertising on both DraftKings Sportsbook and bet365's social media, including in posts encouraging customers to place bets on the featured player."

Diddy Betting Markets Still Open Following Arrest

A number of P Diddy betting markets were being offered immediately following news months back that the famous recording artist and producer was reportedly under a criminal investigation.

Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigators and other law enforcement raided P. Diddy (real name Sean Combs) homes in Miami and Los Angeles on March 25.  Officials said the searches were connected to an investigation by federal authorities in New York, each of which is tied to a sex trafficking probe.

Details of the charges weren't immediately announced by prosecutors, but the hip-hop mogul has faced a stream of allegations by women in recent months who accused him of sexual assault.

His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, said going into the courthouse, he will "fight like hell" to get his client released on bail. Agnifilo said his client is not only not guilty, but outright innocent.

One of the markets has greater than 83% believing he's toast: Will P Diddy be found guilty of a crime by EOY 2026?

Gamblers Split on Fed Rate Cut Basis Points Amount

It's no longer a question of if, but when.

That "when" is likely to be announced on September 18.

It’s likely to be just the first in a series of rate cuts that should make borrowing more affordable now that the Fed has deemed high inflation to be all but defeated.

For its part, the betting markets seem torn between a 25 basis points decrease and a 50 basis points decrease.  The latter is becoming more favored.

Confused Trump Struggles in 'Painful' Crypto Interview and Keeps Trying to Change Topic

Donald Trump has struggled in a 'painful' interview on cryptocurrency - and he kept trying to change the topic.

The former president has spoken about changing the 'old' financial system and moving to cryptocurrency during an X Spaces interview from Mar-A-Lago, just one day after a gunman was detained by police after attempted assassination.

Trump, who recently revealed ownership of over $1 million in cryptocurrency and earnings of $300,000 from sales of branded Bibles, spoke to social media influencer and entrepreneur Farokh Sarmad, who has 3m followers on his @goodlife Instagram page.

Best Poll Yet for Harris

There was some good news this week for Vice President Kamala Harris in her quest to become the next U.S. president.

The Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll, conducted by Selzer & Co., found Donald Trump at 47% to the vice president’s 43% – within the margin of error – in a state the former president has twice won comfortably. (The poll was conducted last week, before Sunday’s apparent assassination attempt against Trump.)

From CNN:

What makes the Selzer survey so important is that it’s been accurate in an era when other pollsters have struggled. Four years ago, it had (Donald) Trump up in Iowa by 7 points days before the election, when other polls had Democrat Joe Biden in a much better position.

A similar scenario played out in 2016. Selzer’s final poll had Trump ahead by 7 points in Iowa. He went on to win the state (by 9 points) and the election over Hillary Clinton, doing better than most swing-state surveys said he would.

BetOnline does offer each state odds for Harris and Trump.

Harris odds sat at -125, Trump at +105
