49ers Fall From -7 to -4.5 Favorite vs. Cowboys: Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel Out?
The game looked good on paper early but Dallas will come into its Sunday Night Football matchup with a 3-3 record while last year's NFC Championship San Francisco 49ers are just 2-3.
The 49ers opened as a -7 point home favorite with that number dropping to -4.5 on the news that Brandon Aiyuk tore his ACL and Deebo Samuel remains in the hospital due to pneumonia and fluid in his lungs. Aiyuk's knee bent in awkwardly after he made a catch in the middle of the field, and he had to be carted off just before halftime.
Samuel played just four offensive snaps against the Chiefs on Sunday then was seen wearing an oxygen mask on the sidelines.
Shanahan said that Samuel first started dealing with symptoms on Sunday morning, and that he was having trouble breathing during their 28-18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Samuel has racked up 335 yards and one touchdown on 20 catches this season, his sixth with the 49ers.
Pneumonia typically takes 1 to 2 weeks go recover from. The odds are not great that Samuel returns to face the Cowboys, but the outlook for Aiyuk is far worse. He is set to undergo season-ending surgery.
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan had a conversation with Aiyuk shortly after the injury suffered during Sunday night's Chiefs game.
"He was hurting, just bummed out, exactly how you'd expect. But he's a strong dude and spiritual guy and believes everything happens for a reason, so he'll be all right. But definitely a little down last night, and I was just telling him how bad I felt for him and just let him know we're all here for him through this."
