Bet on the Menendez Brothers Being Paroled

LA prosecutors on Friday will ask a court to resentence Lyle and Erik Menendez, setting the stage for a possible parole. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has announced his support for the resentencing Thursday afternoon. 

And BetOnline, which shattered all types of records with its offering betting on who would appear on the infamous Jeffrey Epstein List, is widely expected to offer odds on the Menendez Brothers parole by a certain time period to still be determined.

Public sentiment and the prosecutor's remarks would lead parole to be favored to the point that BetOnline would likely opt for time frame odds instead.

"The Menendez Brothers" is just the latest small screen adaptation of a story that shocked Americans during the close of the 1980's. "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" is another.  At the time, the two were viewed as monsters.  Much has changed since.

35 years ago, Lyle Menendez, then 21, and Erik Menendez, then 18, admitted to fatally shooting their father, RCA Records executive Jose Menendez, and their mother, Kitty Menendez, after fearing their parents were about to kill them to stop people from finding out that Jose Menendez had sexually abused Erik Menendez for years.  

Since their 1996 conviction, evidence has emerged to support their claims of sexual abuse at the hands of their father.  A former member of the boy band Menudo also claims he was sexually abused by their father.

A letter from Erik Menendez indicated that José Menendez’s alleged abuse was “driving [him] crazy.”

“Every night, I stay up thinking [my father] might come in,” he wrote. 

“Because of their age, they would be eligible for parole immediately,” Gascón said during a Thursday press conference.

Ironically,Erik Menendez spoke out against "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story", despite it possibly having a role in pushing for the resentencing.

In a statement shared by his wife, Tammi Menendez, on X, Erik criticized the show, saying it misleadingly portrayed him and his brother and there are "blatant lies rampant in the show." He accused co-creator Ryan Murphy of intentionally distorting the facts surrounding their crime.

"Murphy shapes his horrible narrative through vile and appalling character portrayals of Lyle and of me and disheartening slander," he said in the post shared on Thursday.
