The state of Michigan has pulled the plug on Advance Deposit Wagering.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board made the decision and it became effective immediately January 1, 2025.

The decision was made as a result of there being no live racing in the state.

ADW reached out to all account holders on January 1.

Why No Advance Deposit Wagering in Michigan?

From the Paulick Report:

Because of statutory requirements, simulcast and advance-deposit wagering must be tied to a live race meet, and there currently are no tracks in Michigan – Thoroughbred or Standardbred – licensed to conduct live racing. The last Thoroughbred race run in Michigan was at Hazel Park in 2018.

Efforts to revive live racing at the Northville Downs Standardbred racing track, which closed in February 2024, could ultimately result in ADW being reinstated for horseplayers.

That track has been conditionally approved for a license to run two harness racing meets, from April 29-June 30 and Aug. 12-Sept. 27, but the track has not received full licensing approval from the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

Approval of simulcasting and ADW betting is conditional on the track receiving a license to run 30 days of live racing.
