The Providence vs. Villanova game features a line of Wildcats -9 after opening at -7.5.

Villanova has the better record at 11-7 while Providence clings onto the .500 mark.

The line move makes sense considering the Wildcats are seeing close to 80% of the spread action early on.

Villanova has managed to go 8-3 over their last eleven games. Much of their misfortune came early on with a 3-4 start.

The Friars, on the other hand, have played poorly in recent games.  They've gone 3-8 over their last eleven.

Providence vs Villanova is scheduled for 7:00 PM EST live from Wells Fargo Center on Friday. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 and should see a decent enough amount of wagering activity.

  • The Friars just played Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska, on Tuesday, so this isn't a great travel position for them. (Action Network)
  • The Friars offense has been a struggle for the Friars on the road this season, and their trip to Villanova will be a contrast in strength. (Winners and Whiners)
  • Villanova is led by the nation's top individual scorer, Eric Dixon.
  • Providence does not have a strong option to face off against Dixon.
  • Villanova has covered the current spread of 9 over their last two meetings vs. Providence.
  • Four of Villanova's last six wins overall were by more than the current spread.

From ClutchSports:

"The Wildcats' superior rebounding (outrebounding opponents by 4.8 per game) and efficient free-throw shooting (79.5%) give them an edge. Providence will need to control the tempo and limit Villanova's three-point opportunities to stay competitive. Ultimately, Villanova's home court advantage and offensive firepower should prove too much for the Friars, with the Wildcats securing a hard-fought victory covering the spread at home in this Big East clash."
