Dana White said earlier this week that his goal was for Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall to fight this year (2025) and the winner of that will fight Alex Pereira.

Wishful thinking by Mr. White.

No one is saying Jon Jones is ducking Aspinall, but no one is also not saying he isn’t ducking Tom Aspinall.

Jones is not quite at the level of the “boy who cried wolf” Conor McGregor with his fight promises and cancellations, but they’re at least distant relatives.

The oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag opened odds Friday on whether or not Jones and Aspinall will actually fight this year.

BetOnline first released odds on Jones vs. Aspinall all the way back in 2023.  And here was the trend leading up to November of this past year.

Odds on Alex Pereira  vs. Magomed Ankalaev

Magomed Ankalaev is the new UFC light heavyweight champion.

After a seemingly endless three-year wait for his second chance at the title, Ankalaev dethroned the UFC's top active star, Alex Pereira, with a unanimous decision Saturday in the main event of UFC 313

BetOnline.ag was quick to post rematch odds following last night's bout. Ankalaev opened as a -175 favorite (Pereira +150 underdog), and the numbers have moved toward to champ.

Fight Odds

Alex Pereira                  +170

Magomed Ankalaev      -200

Periera vs.  Ankalaev II odds are subject to change.

Aspinall made it clear that Pereira won't be taking on Jones any time soon.

“(Jones vs. Pereira is) off the table now,” Aspinall said. “The Alex Pereira fight at heavyweight, or any other weight, really – I mean, I guess he could still fight him at light heavyweight, really. I guess. But it won’t be for a title. Yeah – Jon: There’s only one thing to do, mate. Sign the contract and let’s get a date going. We’ve seen last night Dana White was talking. Everything is now done on Jon’s side and the UFC now have to find a date and a venue, a place, location. So we’re waiting for that. We’ve got some good news coming soon, hopefully.”
