The NHL playoffs start tomorrow (Saturday) and the Carolina Hurricanes and the Colorado Avalanche are co-favorites at BetOnline.ag to win the Stanley Cup.
In the NBA, there are four teams with 10/1 odds or shorter to win the title. In the NHL, there are ten teams that fit that category.
Unlike the NBA, the best team in the regular season rarely wins the Stanley Cup which makes the next set of odds so interesting.
Despite being the co-favorites to win the Cup, not one player for the Carolina Hurricanes is in the top 15 to win the Conn Smythe Trophy.
This year’s favorite going into the playoffs is Jets’ goalie Connor Hellebuyck. The last time a goalie was the favorite to win the Conn Smythe heading into the playoffs was Pekka Rinne in 2018.
He did not win that year. The NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer, Alex Ovechkin, won that year.
