You may be seeing their commercials broadcasting during this year's Kentucky Derby but if you are in any of the following US states, you'll need to find other alternatives to TwinSpires.

Where You Can't Bet With TwinSpires

These are the states where you cannot open a horse betting account at TwinSpires.

Alaska, Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, and Washington DC are states that do not allow online horse wagering by some form of law or statue.

TwinSpires announced last year they would be taking bets once again from those in Texas after a 13 year absence, however, the Lone Star State recently sent out a cease and desist letter to the company, according to reports.  It was not immediately clear as to whether TwinSpires will still be taking bets from those in Texas for 2026. 

As of April 2025, TwinSpires is now available to those in Maine.

South Carolina Horse Racing

South Carolina law does not allow for any in-state online race books.  All bets must be with websites licensed and based outside the US.  These sites allow those 18 and up and do not require a social security number to register and account.

Steeplechases are the only horse races operating from the state.  The Carolina Cup is a premier steeplechase event held annually at the Springdale Race Course in Camden.  It draws approximately 70,000 spectators yearly.
