Maybe it’s recency bias, but I can’t remember being as excited for a young pitching matchup as I am for Paul Skenes facing off against Jacob Misiorowski.
I remember my dad taking me to see Hall of Famer Stever Carlton face off against Dwight Gooden (in Gooden’s second and best year). The date was April 20th, 1985. Carlton threw seven shutout innings giving up two hits while Gooden pitched eight shutout innings giving up three hits. The Mets eventually won 1-0.
As great as that was, only Gooden was a young pitcher at the time.
Side note, that 1985 season for Dwight Gooden is the highest WAR (12.2) for a pitcher since 1913! So possibly the best pitching season ever.
I only hope that the people of Milwaukee have as memorable an experience tomorrow afternoon as I did a little over 40 years ago!

Keep in mind that last year, Skenes started the All-Star Game and was Rookie of the Year. This year, Skenes is an overwhelming favorite to win Cy Young while after only two starts, Misiorowski is the new Rookie of the Year favorite.
