Reno Casino Shooter in Custody: Multiple People Injured

A suspect is in custody after a shooting at a casino in Reno, Nevada, left multiple people injured on Monday morning, authorities said.

Reno police responded to an active shooter report at Grand Sierra Resort around 7:25 a.m. local time, the department told Fox News Digital.

Within four minutes, authorities said officers located the suspect and a shootout occurred. The suspect was taken to a hospital, according to police, though no update on his condition or identity was immediately available. Police said there was no threat to the public.

The Reno Police Department warned residents to stay out of the area. Multiple emergency vehicles, including several ambulances, were seen outside the casino on Monday. Police haven’t said how many people were injured.

A member of the Reno City Council, Devon Reese, said he was informed by the city manager’s office that there were fatalities reported. He didn’t have additional details.

“My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong — but we are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence gripping this nation,” Reese said in a social media post.

Two people were found dead when law enforcement arrived, and three injured people were taken to the hospital, according to Northern Nevada District Health Officer Dr. Chad Kingsley.

This situation is fluid and Gambling911.com will continue to report new details as they become available.

Emmanuel Clase Placed On Leave While MLB Conducts Gambling Investigation

Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase on Monday was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through Aug. 31 as part of Major League Baseball's investigation into sports gambling.  Clase is the second Guardians pitcher to be caught up in the inquiry.

Clase, 27, is a three-time All-Star and two-time winner of the Mariano Rivera Award as the best relief pitcher in the American League. He finished third in AL Cy Young voting last year when he posted a 0.61 ERA over 74⅓ innings. In 47⅓ innings this season, Clase has a 3.23 ERA and has already allowed more hits this year (46) than last (39) while striking out 47 and walking 12.

Guardians right-hander Luis Ortiz remains on non-disciplinary paid leave after originally being placed there July 3 after unusual gambling activity on two pitches he threw for balls, sources told ESPN. Ortiz's leave was later extended to Aug. 31.

In a statement, the Guardians said "no additional players or club personnel are expected to be impacted" by the investigation.

Is Las Vegas in Trouble?

Hotel occupancy rates are dwindling, declining tourism threatens to push Nevada's already nation-leading unemployment rate higher and casinos—once the beating heart of the Sin City economy—have extended a monthslong streak of falling revenue.

Newsweek asks Is Las Vegas is in trouble? It appears to be.

According to recent data from hotel analytics provider STR, hotel occupancy dropped to 66.7 percent in early July, down nearly 17 percent from the same period last year. Vegas also recorded the steepest national declines in average daily rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPar), the latter down 29 percent year-over-year.

Data shows that visitors, both domestic and international, are increasingly steering clear of Vegas, sparked by a period of economic difficulty at home and a wider decline in inbound travel to the U.S.

This past May visitors to Las Vegas dropped 6.5% from 2024, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported. It’s right on average with 2025’s tourism decline, kept lower by more balanced visitor totals in January.

Vital Vegas joked on Twitter that "Vegas is so thirsty for business, they’re giving away money hand over W-2G".  He referenced the crazy jackpot wins of late.

Police-Involved Shooting Reported at Reno Casino, Authorities Say

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say there was a police-involved shooting at a casino and resort in Reno, Nevada, on Monday and they are urging the public to stay away while they respond to a “critical incident.”

A spokesperson with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department said there was an officer- involved shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort, but provided no further details.

Boomer’s Sportsbook Given Approval For August 1 Launch In Nevada

Nevada’s Gaming Commission unanimously approved Boomer’s application to launch retail locations in Elko, Las Vegas and Henderson as well as a mobile sports betting app, in time for the new NFL season which gets underway on September 4.

The independent bookmaker is run by longtime industry veteran Joe Asher and would become the state's only independent bookmaker once live.

Asher founded Brandywine Bookmaking in 2008 before selling it to British bookmaker William Hill in 2012 for a reported $14.25 million.

Speaking at last Thursday’s hearing, Asher said he believed the new sportsbook could complement the services of casinos in Nevada.

“We think there is room in the market for an independent operator, as William Hill was before it was acquired by Caesars, someone casinos can partner with for sports betting, but who is not a competitor to their core business,” Asher said.

“We think there is also room in the market for a new sportsbook at the business-to-consumer level.”

UK Gambling Industry Launches Summer Charm Offensive to Head Off Tax Rise

Gambling lobbyists are staging a summer charm offensive designed to stop ministers from raising taxes on the sector, the Guardian has learned.  The Treasury is considering whether to simplify the various rates of duty applied to gambling products, a measure that the £11.5bn-a-year sector fears would increase its overall tax bill.  The Betting & Gaming Council (BGC has embarked on a back-channel lobbying push after outlining its objections in a submission to the Treasury.  This included the hosting of a darts-themed evening in order for government officials to attend and hear speeches.

A Flutter UKI spokesperson said: “The Labour staffers event was a great opportunity for us to talk about our ‘Big 180’ partnership with Prostate Cancer UK – built around the World Darts Championship – which has so far encouraged 350,000 men to check out their risk of developing the disease.”

As part of the charm offensive, the BGC’s chair, the former Labour MP Michael Dugher, met Katie Martin, the chief of staff to Rachel Reeves, and was also “in touch” with the chancellor herself, according to the emails.  (Source: The Guardian)
