Put away those Mastercards and Visas.  Beginning Monday August 25, 2025, DraftKings will no longer allow deposits using a credit card.   Their sports betting, casino, horse racing and daily fantasy sports products are all impacted by this decision.

A variety of other deposit methods remain available, depending on your location and the specific product.  Whether customers will embrace these other methods remains to be seen.

While it is true that credit card payments are losing their global dominance in recent years, gamblers may not be entirely comfortable with other methods due to security concerns (i.e. debit cards and bank transfers).  Cryptocurrency deposits, while widely accepted with internationally licensed offshore gambling sites, are not yet incorporated within the US regulated market.

DraftKings claims it is trying to help customers “avoid cash advance fees and higher interest rates” associated with credit card funding.

But, as noted by our friends at SBC Americas, the timing might be a tell-all

The DraftKings decision comes in the wake of a recent regulatory penalty for allowing customers to deposit with credit cards in a state where the method of payment is prohibited. Last month, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission fined DraftKings $450,000 for multiple credit card deposits by customers in 2023 and 2024.  DraftKings, we should note, is headquartered out of Massachusetts.

Customers who have previously used credit cards to fund their DraftKings accounts will have their stored credit cards disabled for funding with the operator later this month.

“DraftKings has made the strategic business decision to remove credit cards as a deposit option for sportsbook and casino in the United States,” a DraftKings spokesperson told SBC Americas. “Customers can still fund their DraftKings Sportsbook and casino accounts using debit cards, bank transfers (ACH), wire transfer, and payment platforms like PayPal, Venmo or Apple Pay (with an eligible payment method, such as a debit card), where permissible.”
