Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker released partial tax records Wednesday showing he and his wife reported more than $10.3 million in taxable income — including more than $1.4 million in income from gambling. The $1.425 million in gambling winnings was accompanied by $4.2 million in capital gains, $3.9 million in dividends, and $800,000 in taxable interest. Altogether the Illinois govenor reported an adjusted gross income nearly amounting to $10.7 million, per the Chicago Sun-Times.
A campaign spokesman explained that Pritzker had “had winnings and losses from a casino” in Las Vegas, but didn’t elaborate any further.
US President Donald Trump last week blasted Pritzger in a Truth Social post, though he had yet to comment on the news of the Illinois governor's gambling activity, which only broke Thursday morning.
“Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers. Governor Pritzker also.”
“Six people were killed, and 24 people were shot, in Chicago last weekend, and JB Pritzker, the weak and pathetic Governor of Illinois, just said that he doesn’t need help in preventing CRIME,” declared Trump wrote in another Truth Social post last month. “He is CRAZY!!! He better straighten it out, FAST, or we’re coming!”
Pritzger's administration recently imposed a tax hike on sports betting firms operating in Illinois as part of the state's 2026 fiscal budget.
It is a two-part tax increase that works as follows:
Graduated revenue tax: This new structure replaced the previous flat 15% tax rate on sportsbooks' adjusted gross revenue (AGR).
- 20% on the first $30 million of AGR.
- 25% on AGR between $30 million and $50 million.
- 30% on AGR between $50 million and $100 million.
- 35% on AGR between $100 million and $200 million.
- 40% on any AGR exceeding $200 million.
Per-wager excise tax: This is a new tax applied to each individual online sports wager.
- $0.25 per wager for the first 20 million wagers an operator accepts in a fiscal year.
- $0.50 per wager on all wagers exceeding the 20 million mark.

Two individuals have been charged with running several illicit online casino websites.
- A cross-border investigation unveiled a network of companies involved in illegal games targeting mostly French citizens. Some of the site managers were based in Cyprus. The persistent difficulties in withdrawing money led to French authorities issuing repeated warnings about suspected money laundering.
- “The illegal gambling site generated nearly EUR 1 billion in turnover over the past five years,” Eurojust said in the press release.
