The Madden Curse, Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints

Madden Curse Drew Brees

It's that time of year.  The Madden NFL cover boy has been selected and New Orleans Saints fans can't be very happy that Drew Brees is it.  The Madden Curse is yet to be broken (though nearly everyone who has appeared on its cover seems to have broken one bone or another).

Maybe, just maybe, Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald, who appeared along side Pittsburgh's Troy Polamalu on the cover of last year's Madden NFL managed to walk away from last season relatively unscathed.  Polamalu, on the other hand, sprained his MCL in the first half of the season opener and missed the next four games, then he injured his posterior cruciate ligament.

The Madden Curse is so big now that online gambling sites the likes of Sportsbook.com were offering odds on whether Polamalu would miss any games last year due to injury and they posted the same odds on Fitzgerald.  They intend to do the same this season

One can argue, we suppose, that the curse only affects one player appearing on the cover of Madden NFL.  This season, Drew Brees is slated to go solo.  GULP!

Brees, who led his team to a 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in this year's Super Bowl, said publicly landing the cover of "Madden" was "a great way to cap off an amazing year."

Privately, he is probably knocking his head against the wall asking "WHY? WHY ME?"

The Saints are currently the 3rd most likely to win the 2010 Super Bowl with +900 odds or $100 bet pays out $900 at Sportsbook.com.  Excellent value that should be locked in now before these odds change.  Odds will not be available for betting during the Draft either.
