The map below, courtesy of BetOnline.ag, is based on geotagged X data in the last week, tracking tweets, hashtags, and direct keyword phrases about who fans think will win the National Championship, in each state.

For example, "Ohio State will win the National Championship," "Ohio State will win it all," "Ohio State will win the natty," "I'm betting on Ohio State," "I'm picking Ohio State," etc. Over 210,000 tweets were tracked.

As you can see from the map, Ohio State and Indiana are the top picks. This is unsurprising as they are top seeds, and the betting favorites.

The prevailing sentiment seems to be that if Ohio State and Indiana meet again in the National Championship, that it would be very difficult for IU to defeat the Buckeyes twice in a row.

Outside of IU and Ohio State, the other areas of the country are more in line with homer or regional picks, but it should be noted that no state picked Tulane or James Madison. I’m guessing if Notre Dame or BYU would have been selected, they would have grabbed a few states.

One note I found interesting was that Texas A&M won the state of Texas over Texas Tech while Tech was the pick in New Mexico

Here's the breakdown:

Ohio State - 21 states                 (Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, NJ, NY, ND, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, WV, Wyoming)

Indiana - 18 states                      (California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, NH, RI, SD, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin)

Georgia - 3 states                       (Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina)

Oregon - 2 states                        (Idaho, Oregon)

Alabama - 1 state                        (Alabama)

Miami - 1 state                             (Florida)

Ole Miss - 1 state                        (Mississippi)

Oklahoma - 1 state                      (Oklahoma)

Texas A&M - 1 state                   (Texas)

Texas Tech - 1 state                   (New Mexico)
