United State Secretary of Homeland Security is once again under scrutiny following yet another fatal shooting of a US citizen in Minneapolis by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Traders at Polymarket have Noem's chances of leaving the cabinet of US President Donald Trump at just 15 percent, unchanged from hours prior to the tragic incident.
Family members identified the man who was killed Saturday as Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care unit nurse at a VA hospital.
The Department of Homeland Security claims the agent killed Pretti in self-defense — a narrative Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called “nonsense” and “lies.”
The agency said Pretti approached U.S. Border Patrol officers with a 9mm handgun while they were conducting an operation.
DHS said Pretti resisted when officers attempted to disarm him, leading to an agent opening fire. Minneapolis police said Pretti was shot multiple times and was later pronounced dead.
The agency said Pretti had two magazines on him along with the gun, claiming it looks like he wanted to “massacre law enforcement.”
It was not immediately clear what other evidence supports that claim. Video online of the incident appears to show Pretti holding a cell phone to record officers.
