If you’re a manager in MLB, the only thing that really matters is “What have you done for me lately”.
Case in point:
- These former Manager of the Year winners are either out of work or with a new team:
- Brandon Hyde 2023 (Orioles)
- Rocco Baldelli 2019 (Twins)
- Bob Melvin 2018 (A’s)
- Skip Schumaker 2023 (Marlins, currently Rangers manager)
- Buck Showalter 2022 (Mets)
- Gabe Kapler 2021 (Giants)
- Don Mattingly 2020 (Marlins)
- Mike Shildt 2019 (Cardinals)

Some more notes, as I love my bullet points:
- Pat Murphy of the Brewers won back-to-back MOY awards. The only other NL manager to do that was Bobby Cox in 2004/05.
- Stephen Vogt of the Guardians also won back-to-back MOY awards. The only other AL manager to do that was Kevin Cash in 2020/21.
- Pat Murphy is the opening NL favorite.
- Stephen Vogt is not the favorite in the AL.
- There were nine new managerial hirings in the offseason.
