Nevada congresswoman Dina Titus, a Democrat who represents the state's 1st Congressional District (NV-01) says she is working tirelessly to pass her FAIR BET Act, but things do not appear to be going so well.

In 2025, The so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act  included a provision few gamblers knew about until after the legislation became law.  It limits how much one's gambling losses can be deducted against gambling winnings on their federal tax return.

Under the new rule, taxpayers can only deduct 90% of their documented gambling losses in a year, compared to 100% deduction that had been allowed for decades.

"I’m still fighting for this fair tax policy. I submitted another amendment to the funding bill this week to restore the gambling loss tax deduction to 100%," Titus tweeted out late Monday.

"Republican leadership, however, refused to make my amendment in order and hold a vote on this commonsense fix."

Gamblers are not impacted with their 2025 filings this year but the law must be changed prior to December 31 or else the 90% rule will go into effect for next year's filings.
