There is little action at the online betting exchange intrade.com for the Elm Street and Iron Man 2 opening box office receipts market as we head into midweek.  Elm Street is slated to open the last weekend in April while Iron Man opens the first weekend in May.

To date, nobody has bet on the opening box office receipts for Elm Street while a few stragglers have placed their money on Iron Man grossing between 140 and 149 million.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) is an upcoming slasher film written by Wesley Strick and Eric Heisserer, directed by Samuel Bayer, and produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller. It is a remake of Wes Craven's 1984 slasher film of the same name and designed to reboot the franchise. A group of suburban teenagers are being haunted in their dreams by a horribly disfigured killer known as Freddy Krueger.

"(Wes) Craven is a smart guy and there's a deeper meaning in his movies. It's definitely not a standard slasher film. This is a movie that you can mention to people and their jaws drop. And not because I'm redoing it, but because of that franchise, that character, had a profound effect on their childhood. And not just for horror fans. I hear things like, 'Freddy scared the hell out of me.' I think what I want to do and what everyone involved wants to do is re-invent the character for a new generation, I think I'd be happy if people welcome this and at the same time see we're going off on a slightly different path, but if you follow the DNA of it, it goes all the way back to the first movie." - Samuel Bayer on remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street

Craven was not exactly thrilled about his film being remade without his being brought on as a consultant however.

Iron Man 2 is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name from Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures. It is the sequel to 2008's Iron Man, and the second film in a planned trilogy. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film stars Robert Downey, Jr., reprising his role as Tony Stark, an industrialist and master engineer, also known as the superhero Iron Man. The film is scheduled to be released in Australia and Argentina on April 29, 2010, the United Kingdom on April 30, 2010 and in North America on May 7, 2010.

Both films kick off what is typically a summer blockbuster season.   This summer will feature a Shrek film, an A Team remake, a Robin Hood remake and Sex in the City 2.
