The quest for gold in Saturday's Freestyle Skiing - Men's Free Cross is mostly between Reece Howden (CAN) at +135 odds and Simone Deromedis (ITA) at +270. Florian Wilmsmann (GER) is the only other Olympians with single digit odds (+750).
Howden represented Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics[ in Beijing, China, where he finished 3rd in the quarterfinalsand 9th overall.
"I think the biggest mistake people can do is try to save something for the Games," Holden said ahead of the start of this year's Olympics. "You know, the best thing you can do for the Games is come in hauling," Howden said. "Keep skiing fast, and stay there, and that's the plan. I'm not one for saving something. It is not the kind of sport we have. If you're on top, try your best to stay there...it's a lot easier to stay in the mix, then try to take it easy, then ramp it up for race day.
"So I'm just gonna try and stay on the high and ride it right into the Olympics."
Deromedis will pay out US$270 for every US$100 bet should he win a gold medal in this event.
At the 2023 World Championships held in Bakuriani, Georgia, he won the gold medal in the ski cross.
