FanDuel
  • FanDuel becomes first book to offer the full game injury insurance

  • But experts in the field suggest the product is predatory

FanDuel has just launched Bet Protect+, an innovative product that addresses concerns over starters injuries during a game.

Full game injury protection for only 3% of your bet.  If your player leaves the game due to injury at any point and does not return, you are protected.

Aspects of the new offering include:

  • Full game coverage
  • Every eligible player prop bet in your parlay is protected
  • Straight bets are refunded in cash
  • Parlays play out at updated odds without the injured player
  • Protected bets are refunded next day

Greg Ehrenberg, Director of DFS content at Stokastic, had this to say about FanDuel's new insurance product:

"Every single person who thinks cashing out bets is +EV is going to start paying for injury insurance too. These options only exist to extract more money from you."

Apparently the option is only available in a handful of select U.S. states where FanDuel is regulated.  New Jersey and Pennsylvania do not offer it.

Ehrenberg suggests that some regulators may see the option as predatory.

Swizzy noted the difference in this and other similar insurance products.

"This is entire game insurance, which no other book offers. 30 seconds left in the game, they go out with injury? you’re covered."

Ehrenberg responded that the other books have stayed clear of offering this because, once again, they see it as predatory.
