Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer now dead even in the odds to be next California governor
Other candidates see their odds get longer after CNN debate

Xavier Becerra impressed enough Tuesday night on the debate stage to pull even with Tom Steyer in the next Governor of California odds.
Other candidates on stage pounced on Becerra, which helped to underscore his surging to front runner status in the crowded race.
The former Health and Human Services Secretary, a Democrat, had the second-best odds coming into the CNN debate at 3/2, just behind Steyer.
Now Becerra and Steyer are co-favorites now at BetOnline, each carrying 1/1 odds.
“I think everyone’s invoking my name,” Becerra said toward the end of the debate hosted by CNN. “It’s nice to hear my name.”
It's an old-fashioned tossup, and don't forget...both of these guys had around 25/1 odds just a few weeks ago and were as high as 50/1 in November 2025.
Steve Hilton's odds didn't move (12/1), while the other three candidates all saw their odds worsen.
In particular, Katie Porter (now at 20/1 odds) was trending on Twitter throughout much of the night for all the wrong reasons.
Here are the latest numbers:
California Governor Odds
Tom Steyer 1/1
Xavier Becerra 1/1
Steve Hilton 12/1
Matt Mahan 14/1
Katie Porter 20/1
Chad Bianco 65/1
