Tourism in the Primm Valley of California has declined significantly as its once thriving outlet mall sits mostly vacant
Primm Valley Casino Reports was known as the “first Vegas stop” for Californians
BetUS offers up to a $4000 welcome bonus - Sportsbook first established in 1994
It's not going to be a Happy 4th of July holiday for quite a few people who live in the Primm Valley of California.
Employees of the long established Primm Valley Casino Reports on Interstate 15 at the California-Nevada border were sent termination letters on Tuesday. The final day of work will be July 4.
Owner Affinity Gaming has yet to make an official statement.
Primm Valley was the last of three operating casino resorts in Primm, formerly known as State Line, that included Whiskey Pete’s and Buffalo Bill’s. It first opened in 1977, though the more expansive resort properties were added in 1990 and 1994, respectively. It grew out of a tiny desert gas-stop. It was widely regarded as the “first Vegas stop” for Californians.
Customer reviews universally mention how dated the rooms and common areas are. Customers also complained of how the live table games are no longer available. These were gradually removed due to the casinos losing traffic and trying to cut costs while also reducing security/liability issues. Whiskey Pete's removed its tables during the COVID shutdown and never brought them back. Overall, reviews were still mostly favorable and the casino is quite responsive on Google.
There has been a lot of talk over the years in regard to Primm's tourism dying off due to its mostly deserted outlet mall.
Prizm Outlets in Primm, Nevada (formerly Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas) is largely vacant and functionally closed as of mid-2025. Only San Thrift USA remains operational, though the indoor, air-conditioned hallway is often accessible through neighboring casino entrances. Tenant occupancy and sales decreased during the 2010s, due to competition from Las Vegas Premium Outlets as well as online retailers. Upon opening in 1998, the mall featured approximately 100 retailers.
