Atlanta
  • Though relatively small, the largest concentration of those with South African heritage in the U.S. reside in and around the Atlanta area

  • South Africa pays out US$550 for every US$100 bet to win their World Cup match vs. heavily favored Mexico

Over the next few weeks, Gambling911.com will be profiling each 2026 FIFA World Cup match and the regions that should see the most fandom and bets coming in.

Obviously it's not rocket science that Mexico vs. South Africa will see crazy celebrations and wagering activity in both Mexico and South Africa.  Well duh!!!!

But what about in the USA?

There is a huge population of Mexicans, especially in cities like LA, Dallas, Houston and Miami.

Nationwide, There is somewhere in the range of 37 to 39 million people of Mexican ancestry overall including about 10–11 million Mexican-born residents.  The amount of betting on any FIFA World Cup match featuring Mexico is going to be massive, including in the U.S..

As for South Africa, compared with the Mexican-origin population (~38 million), South Africans are a relatively small community nationally.  We are talking just 150,000–200,000.

From a betting perspective, Atlanta area bookies should make out the most if they can somehow find ways to capitalize on this population.

Delta Air Lines historically offered strong international connectivity to and from South Africa.   Atlanta is Delta's biggest hub and the most traveled through airport in the U.S.  A reasonable estimate is probably around 3,000 to 8,000 South Africans in the broader Atlanta metro area.  Roughly 300,000 to 400,000 people of Mexican origin/descent reside in the Atlanta area as well, making Mexicans the largest Hispanic subgroup in the region.  Mexico vs. South Africa should fill the venues that are showing the World Cup.  Bets on this match, one can reasonably anticipate, are expected to be substantial from this region.

The largest concentration of South Africans (or those with South African heritage) living in the Atlanta area can be found in these cities/towns:

  • Alpharetta
  • Roswell
  • Marietta
  • Sandy Springs

Sadly, a number of bars in the area popular with South Afriancans have closed in recent years, Biltong Bar being one.

Pay Per Head Bookies in the Atlanta area can't go wrong luring in customers during the 2026 World Cup.

These are popular spots that will be showing the 2026 World Cup.

  • The Brewhouse Cafe — Considered among the strongest traditional soccer pub atmosphere in Atlanta. Expect supporters from all over, including expats.
  • Fado Irish Pub — Another major soccer-watch destination in Buckhead that routinely hosts international supporter groups and early-morning World Cup crowds.
  • Sports & Social Atlanta — Huge television screens
  • Manny's Grant Park — Known locally as a soccer-friendly neighborhood bar.
  • Dave's Sports Bar and Grill — Near the airport.

South Africa, we should note, is one of Gambling911.com's fastest growing readership audiences.   And with 63 million residents, sportsbooks that cater to that nation should see record numbers.

Georgia residents will rely on local bookies as well as prediction markets and offshore sportsbooks.

South Africa's largest online sportsbooks by estimated customer number are:

  • Betway
  • Hollywoodbets
  • SuperSportBet
  • Sportingbet

Betway, in particular, has long focused on the African sports betting market.
