Man Shot in Back By Family Member at Oneida Casino in Green Bay, Wisconsin: Appleton Suspect Arrested
  • A male individual was shot in the back on casino ramp of the Oneida Casino complex

  • A family member, identified as Long Thao, was later apprehended and faces numerous charges

  • Casino complex was the scene of a mass shooting in 2021

A male individual was hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries after being shot early Saturday morning at the Oneida Casino property in Green Bay.

Ashwaubenon police were called to the establishment following reports of a shooting at 1:53 am.

Upon arrival, responding officers discovered a male in the casino ramp with a gunshot wound to the back.

The suspect, Long Thao, was apprehended during a traffic stop after fleeing the scene. He was later identified as a family member of the victim.

Thao was later booked in the Brown County Jail on charges including First Degree Intentional Homicide/Attempted, Knowingly Violate a Domestic Abuse Injunction, and Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated. Additional charges may be added upon further investigation.

In Wisconsin, Abuse Injunctions are generally issued after a court finds evidence of domestic abuse, threats, harassment, intimidation, or similar conduct involving family or household members.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim in this matter, only identifying the individual as a male subject.

The casino sits in a hub of shopping and dining on Green Bay’s west side and is the official casino hotel of the Green Bay Packers.

This is the second shooting at the casino property in just over five years.

In May of 2021, a former employee entered the casino/hotel complex and carried out a targeted shooting that left multiple people dead before he was killed by police. Authorities said at the time the attack appeared to be directed at a specific individual rather than random casino violence.

The shooter was later identified as Bruce Pofahl, a 62-year-old former food and beverage manager at the Duck Creek Kitchen & Bar restaurant located inside the complex. That restaurant has since been shuttered.
